José González's trademark is beautiful fingering on the acoustic guitar, added to a soft melody and with a gentle vocal. Although his work consists mainly of original works, he has also done covers of tracks such as "Love Will Tear Us Apart" by Joy Division, The Knife's "Heartbeats, "Born in the USA" and "The Ghost of Tom Joad" by Bruce Springsteen , and "Teardrop" by Massive Attack.
In addition to playing solo, González is also a member of the band Junip and has also collaborated with English Zero 7 on their album "The Garden" where he is on guest vocals and instrumentalist on the tracks "Futures", "Left Behind", "Today", as well as the remix version of his own track "Crosses".
